On September 8, Meta launched its personal AI agent Muse. The 'do-it, don't-chat' product topped the US App Store free chart within two weeks — ahead of ChatGPT, Claude and Grok — and added nearly $200B to Meta's market cap in a single day.

On September 8, Meta officially launched its personal AI agent Muse. The product — built to autonomously execute web tasks across platforms — went viral within two weeks, topping the US App Store free-app chart ahead of ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.

Muse is not a traditional Q&A chatbot but a personal AI agent running inside a per-user isolated Secure VM, driven by Meta Superintelligence Labs' Muse Spark model. Given a goal, Muse breaks the task down, opens a browser, fills forms, sends emails, books trips, shops and reconciles bills — and keeps running in the background even after the app is closed. High-risk actions (payments, emails) require explicit user confirmation; core credentials are never handed to the AI directly, gated by a Sentinel supervision layer.

Per Meta, Muse is initially available to users 18+ in the US and Canada across iOS, Android, web and WhatsApp, with planned integration into Facebook, Instagram and Meta's smart-glasses ecosystem. It is positioned as a 'personal Agent that understands your goals and gets things done around the clock.'

The numbers are striking: 730K+ downloads in 5 days, 902K in 6; topped the US iOS free chart on day 10, ahead of ChatGPT, Claude and Grok; ~2.6M cumulative downloads by day 13 (1.5M iOS / 1.1M Android). Wells Fargo cited 264K single-day downloads on 9/19 and 448K DAU on 9/18, and raised its Meta target to $796.

On the markets, Meta rose as much as 13% intraday on 9/21 and closed +11.43%, adding nearly $200B in a single day — its biggest gain since mid-2025. The 'agents stay online and lean on CPU/RAM for orchestration' narrative also lifted AMD +9.95% (first $1T market cap), Intel +12.14%, ARM +17.16%, and the SOX index +4.3%.

The bigger bet is the ecosystem: last week Meta opened Muse to third-party developers with a Connector Platform — companies build Connectors so the agent can call their services directly (Shopify via ShopPay, Stripe for payments). Reviewed like the App Store, Meta controls distribution and ranking; Connectors may become the 'next-generation App'.

Controversy is sharp too: on 9/21 Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on its site, citing lack of authorization, failure to identify as an agent, and possible storage of customer credentials. Privacy concerns mount over cross-platform personal-data access, and OpenAI is rumored to be accelerating its own rival. Whether Muse converts a viral hit into a durable growth engine remains unproven.
